Become a professional photographer by specializing in this one-year advanced program
Fanshawe’s Photography – Advanced post-graduate certificate provides students who have a solid foundation in DSLR camera operation with opportunities to develop their unique creativity into a professional career.
Students will explore a chosen photographic discipline where projects will be based on their choice of specialization and result in a professional portfolio that aligns with their personal career goals.
Specialize your photography discipline
Specialities could include fashion, food, architecture, product and portrait photography. In addition to advanced photography and post-production skills, students will also gain entrepreneurial experience in marketing and job pricing, working with real clients as they operate an on-campus creative service centre providing photography and video production to the local community.
Throughout the year, students take field trips to meet with professionals in the industry and visit trade shows and conferences to research new products and future trends in photography.
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to
1. Capture still and motion imagery using a broad range of camera equipment, lighting techniques and procedures to suit project requirements.2. Create professional still and motion imagery in both studio and location environments using knowledge of contemporary processes, procedures, visual styles.3. Implement colour management strategies to create and maintain a properly colour calibrated work environment that complies with established standards.4. Create still and motion imagery through the editing of image characteristics, retouching techniques and composite creation using professional standards in both printed and online presentation formats.5. Interpret the requests of clients to produce photos and videos that fulfil their needs.6. Develop business procedures for photography and video projects, including requirements and deliverables, budgetary considerations, pricing and contract management, to ensure profitability.7. Cultivate professional relationships with clients, customers and designers in order to build and sustain a professional practice.8. Produce a self-promotional cross-media portfolio that highlights one’s innovative, creative skills and technical expertise in photography, print, video and interactive design.9. Investigate evolving photography trends, issues, technologies and industry practices in the development of professional growth strategies and plans and to develop expertise in a chosen field of work or specialization.

Students Must Complete a Minimum of 10 credits in this program at Fanshawe College to meet the Program Residency requirement and graduate from this program
A Diploma or Degree in:
An equivalent qualification from another institution as judged by the College
A combination of relevant education and work experience in a related field as judged by the College to be equivalent to the above and completion of a portfolio.

English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods:
A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 88 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 6.5 with no score less than 6.0 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years.
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 70 with no score less than 60 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 59, with test results within the last two years
An English Language Evaluation (ELE) at Fanshawe College with a minimum score of 75% in all sections of the test, with test results within the last two years
Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9 or 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10
Applicant Selection Criteria
Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario
Receipt of Application by February 1st (After this date, Fanshawe College will consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full)
Achievement in the Admission Requirements
Assessment of Applicant's skill set relevant to the program based on a digital portfolio
